As the Fulton County Emergency Management Agency team continues to grow their team by gaining more members than ever before they're also focusing on gaining more skills to help the community in times of crisis. Fulton County EMA recently joined the Fulton County Amateur Radio Club on Fox Hunt, also known as a transmitter hunt.
Stephen Berggren, Deputy director of the Fulton County EMA explained the hunt taught members how to use radio direction finding techniques to locate one or more radio transmitters hidden within a designated search area.
During the hunt a decoy radio/transmitter was hidden and found by team members using handheld radios and other special equipment. Around 10 people participated in the event, but the team hopes to participate in fox hunts in the future. Berggren says he believes the technique is something that Fulton County EMA can utilize in the future for things like finding a lost person or tracking down a rogue transmitter.
