Fulton Co. EMA establishes a sandbag station with more rain in the forecast

More shower and thunderstorm possibilities are in the forecast for Thursday.

Self-fill sandbags are available at the Fulton County EMA building, 1728 East State Road 14. It is a self-service sandbag station.

Thursday’s forecast includes a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 p.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 81.

For this evening and overnight, a lingering chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 10 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 68.

Governor Mike Braun directed state response efforts from Northwest Indiana Wednesday assessing damage from Tuesday’s severe storms and coordinating resources, as widespread power outages, flooding and storms continue across the state.

“Between storm damage, widespread power outages and flooding, hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers have been impacted across the state,” said Gov. Braun. “I’ve directed our agencies to work around the clock alongside local officials, first responders and utility crews to get resources where they’re needed. As storms continue today, our teams are ready, resources are in place and we will continue responding to needs as they arise.”

Gov. Braun was joined by Adjutant General of the Indiana National Guard Larry Muennich, Indiana State Police Superintendent Anthony Scott and Indiana Department of Homeland Security Executive Director Jonathan Whitham to meet with local officials and first responders and receive an update on storm damage, power outages and ongoing response efforts.

Gov. Braun has directed the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) to lead the state’s response in coordination with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Transportation and Indiana Department of Correction. Indiana’s State Emergency Operations Center elevated its activation to Level 3 today to support the ongoing response and coordinate state resources with impacted communities. The state has also provided generators and an oxygen trailer to support needs in Northwest Indiana.

Restoring power and keeping Hoosiers safe in the meantime remain top priorities for Gov. Braun. Utility crews are working to restore service and IDHS is coordinating with local officials and response partners to address needs created by the outages, The American Red Cross stands ready to establish shelters, cooling centers and charging stations as needed. Hoosiers without power are encouraged to take precautions against the heat and use available cooling centers if needed. 

Gov. Braun is also directing state resources to respond to impacts beyond Northwest Indiana as conditions continue to evolve. State emergency officials are working directly with local leaders to meet needs and deploy resources quickly, including supporting response efforts in areas heavily impacted by flooding, such as Delaware and Henry counties. Resources remain ready to assist communities across the state as needed.

As storms continue across Indiana on Wednesday, Gov. Braun has directed the state’s emergency response teams to remain ready for changing conditions. Saturated ground could increase the risk of additional flooding from heavy rainfall, while stronger storms could bring gusty winds and additional downed trees and power lines.

Gov. Braun is urging Hoosiers to remain weather aware while state and local teams continue response and recovery efforts. Hoosiers should have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts, follow guidance from local authorities, never drive or walk through floodwaters, avoid downed power lines and dangerous road conditions, and give first responders and utility crews room to work.
