A lengthy standoff in Effingham Friday came to an end with the death of a male subject by his own hand.
Preliminary reports indicate that the man had been involved in a robbery and shooting incident in another state earlier in the day and had fled into Illinois. He was spotted by police at the TA Truck Stop in the afternoon and was tasered near his semi-truck.
He managed to arm himself and entered the cab of the semi. Police then began negotiations over several hours before a single gunshot was heard coming from the truck cab and the suspect was discovered deceased inside.
The Effingham County Coroners office reports that the suspects name is not being released pending notification of next of kin. They did say that he was not an Illinois resident. There were no other injuries.
