Deputy Prater with the Marshall County Sheriff's Department arrested two drivers over the weekend for reckless driving, both caught traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
On Saturday, August 29, at 8:11 p.m., Deputy Prater conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling 110 mph in a posted 60 mph zone southbound on U.S. 31 near 16th Road in Argos. The driver, 21-year-old Anthony G. Tutson of South Bend, was arrested and booked into the Marshall County Jail. Tutson was charged with reckless driving, a Class C misdemeanor, and given a $100 cash bond.
On Sunday, August 30, at 7:01 p.m., Deputy Prater conducted another traffic stop — this time on a vehicle traveling 106 mph in a posted 60 mph zone eastbound on U.S. 30 near Elm Road in Bourbon. The driver, 30-year-old Kwabena A. Obeng of Chicago, was arrested and booked into the Marshall County Jail. Obeng was also charged with reckless driving, a Class C misdemeanor, and given a $100 cash bond and a court date.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
