On Monday, February 20, 2023, at approximately 5:00 p.m. Deputy Haygood with the Marshall County Sheriff's Department initiated a traffic stop near U.S. 31 and 11th Road on a vehicle that had exceeded the posted speed limit.
The driver was identified later as Ronald Nichols, 34, of South Bend. Upon further investigation, Mr. Nichols was found to be operating a vehicle without ever receiving a driver’s license.
Mr. Nichols was taken to the Marshall County Jail and lodged on the charge of Operating a Vehicle Without a License.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
