The Indiana Office of Energy Development (OED) offered $1.46 million in grant funds aimed at assisting local government units across the state to strengthen energy efficiency and conservation efforts. Funds are from the federal allocation to Indiana for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program.
Grant dollars were to be utilized to increase energy efficiency and conservation in the community. The grant funds were available for energy planning, energy audits and efficiency upgrades for publicly owned buildings, and electric transportation.
Highway Superintendent Jason Peters applied for the grant and received a letter saying they were approved for two electric pickup trucks and with a charging station and electrical upgrades in the amount of $149,333.
During Monday’s Commissioner meeting Peters told the commissioners he will be receiving the grant and will need their approval. He explained the reimbursable grant so the superintendent will need to find the funds to pay for the purchases and then submit the paperwork for reimbursement of up to $149,333.
