A Bremen man was lodged in the Marshall County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond Tuesday morning, April 30th at 4:15.
Saw Doe Lay of East Lincoln Street is being held on charges of domestic battery and intimidation.
The arrest comes after a felony warrant was issued for his arrest. Friends of Naw Cherry Paw, Saw’s wife, came to the Bremen Police Department on April 22nd and asked police to stand by as they helped Naw Cherry Paw leave her home because she was being abused.
Officer Ulch went to the Lincoln Street home and Mrs. Paw came out with her bags and suitcases. She was taken to the Bremen PD and interviewed. She told the officer on April 21st she and her husband had been arguing and Saw Doe Lay pulled her hair, punched her in the back of the head, and hit her on both shoulders. He also threatened her with a firearm.
On April 22nd Officer Yeargin interviewed Mr. Lay and he said he and his wife had been arguing but he went to sleep. He told the officer he didn’t know how the marks and injuries to his wife happened. Mr. Lay gave the officer permission to remove the Smith & Wesson rifle from the home.
Sargeant Troy Ulch with the Bremen Police Department forwarded the information to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration. A felony warrant for the arrest of Saw Doe Lay was issued on April 26th with charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon as a level 5 felony and domestic battery as a class A misdemeanor.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
