Bread of Life Food Pantry seeks volunteers for spring garden opening

The Bread of Life Community Food Pantry is inviting community members to get their hands dirty for a good cause during its upcoming Garden Opening event on Saturday, March 21.

The spring kickoff will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the pantry grounds, located at 6770 North Michigan Road, just north of Plymouth.

Organizers are actively seeking volunteers to help clean up the garden area and begin planting the season's first crops, which will include peas and potatoes. Participants are asked to bring their own gardening tools, such as rakes, shovels, and hoes, as well as kneeling pads or garden stools. Because the garden utilizes raised beds, volunteers will have the added convenience of being able to sit while they clean the beds and plant seeds.

The community garden is a vital part of the Bread of Life Community Food Pantry's mission to provide a reliable source of nutritious, fresh food to supplement the needs of local families facing food insecurity.

Operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the pantry is entirely volunteer-led and operates with no paid employees. Representatives from the pantry say they rely entirely on community support and "God's provision" to feed those in need, noting that the strong relationships built within the community are proof of continued faithfulness.

Above all, the organization stresses that its services are offered in a spirit designed to maintain the dignity, self-respect, and privacy of every individual and family they serve.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the Garden Opening is encouraged to grab their gardening tools and arrive at the pantry this Saturday morning to help prepare for a fruitful growing season.
