A high speed pursuit in Pulaski County ended with an arrest involving multiple drug charges.
About 8 p.m. Monday, a deputy was on patrol. In the area of County Road 1075 West, he observed a Dodge Dart nearly hit another vehicle head on. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop. After he activated his emergency lights, the vehicle took the deputy on a high-speed pursuit across Pulaski County. At one point the pursuit reached speeds of 100 miles per hour. They traveled to the Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife area, down US 421, and through the Town of Medaryville.
While on US 421 before Medaryville, another deputy was in position with stop-sticks. The suspect vehicle hit the stop sticks that completely deflated the suspect tires. After the tires were flattened, the vehicle only traveled approximately another mile. It then turned into a wooded area outside of Medaryville.
The vehicle eventually came to rest in the same wooded area. The suspect acted as if he was going to flee the vehicle, and continue the pursuit on foot. But when the deputy exited his vehicle with his K-9 Partner, Tiko, and made K-9 warning announcements, the suspect put his hands up and complied immediately.
The suspect was identified as Dustin Cannon, 42, from San Pierre. Charges include Resisting Law Enforcement with a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Controlled Substances.
Cannon also had active out -of -county arrest warrants.
