According to figures released this week by the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES), unemployment increased in Lawrence and surrounding counties from November to December of 2023. Unemployment here in Lawrence County was measured at 5.3% in December up from 4.6% in November. Wabash County had 3% unemployment in December up from 2.9% in November, Richland County 4.1% in December up from 3.8% in November, Crawford County 4.1% in December up from 3.5% in November and Edwards County had a 5% jobless rate in December up from 4.4% in November.
