An incident between two vehicles resulted in one man being shot following a voluntary crash.
Saturday, a call came into the Vigo County Sheriff's Office for shots fired on Candlewood Circle in southern Vigo County. When Police arrived to the scene they found two victims (a man and woman) and two wrecked vehicles.
The man told deputies that a red pickup truck had been following them down the road. The man eventually stopped his vehicle to confront the driver. Once the victim left the vehicle, the driver of the red truck ran into the man and his vehicle. Following the crash the victim responded by pulling out a firearm and shooting the driver.
The red truck contained two people, 35-year-old Dustin L. Roecker and an unidentified passenger. The two suspects fled the scene on foot, leaving the two victims. Once police arrived, they sent both victims to the local hospital. State Police then became involved, tracking down Roecker, who was in a new vehicle. Police arrested Roecker in Sullivan County.
Roecker was taken to a local hospital to be treated for the gunshot wound. Charges being faced by Roecker include attempted murder, criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement, and auto theft. The gunshot wound injury is not expected to be fatal.
