Some disappointing economic news for southwestern Indiana and the region.
Late last week, AgroRenew announced it is not moving forward with the planned construction of a bioplastics plant in Knox County. The company cited continued delays in the delivery of necessary equipment and rising fiscal challenges tied to out-of-country manufacturing as the main reasons for the suspension of activities.
Plans for the new plant were announced back in 2023 and a ceremonial groundbreaking was held in June of 2024. The project involved the building of a 196,000-square-foot facility on property on Elkhorn Road south of Vincennes which would convert agricultural waste into biodegradable plastic.
Despite the setback, company founders Brian and Katie Southern say they remain committed to their long-term vision of creating such a facility in the future.
