Governor Braun’s suspension of Indiana’s gas tax has probably been a relief to many in the wake of escalating gas prices.
But it’s also a major concern for local governments who are shifting road maintenance plans to deal with the loss of revenue.
Fulton County Commissioner Dave Sommers says the loss of much of the funding for the county’s highway department that is generated by the tax is starting to have its impact locally.
The commissioners did give the go-ahead for an upcoming bridge project funded, in part, by Community Crossings.
Sommers says he anticipates the project should get underway in the next month or two.
