A St. Paul man was arrested following an attempted burglary report and pursuit in Jennings County.
On Friday, deputies from the Jennings County Sheriff's Office responded to an address in Butlerville in reference to an attempted burglary. Deputies observed numerous subjects at the address across the road which was the residence of a man who had an active warrant. Deputies went to the address next door in attempt to serve that warrant. Immediately upon their arrival, a man fled from the driveway on foot. Deputies began pursuing the subject around the back of the residence. While the male was running deputies reported that they observed the man attempting to retrieve a firearm from a holster on his waistband.
Deputies were able to catch the man and a struggle ensued while in a small creek. During the struggle the male attempted to swallow multiple bags of illegal drugs, refused to comply with the commands of deputies and continued to reach for the firearm on his hip. Law enforcement reports show that fter numerous techniques to get the man to comply with deputies, K9 Creed was released and apprehended the subject. The man was later identified as Matthew Boggs of St. Paul.
Boggs was treated for minor injuries at the scene as well at St. Vincent Jennings ER. One deputy sustained minor injuries while Boggs was resisting.
Deputies were able to recover 27 grams of suspected methamphetamine from the scene as well as a 9 mm handgun that was removed from Boggs' person.
After being medically cleared by doctors, Boggs was transported to Jennings County Jail on several preliminary charges including Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute - Level 2 Felony; Resisting Law Enforcement with a Deadly Weapon - Level 5 Felony; Resisting Law Enforcement Causing Injury - Level 5; Resisting Law Enforcement Causing Injury - Level 5 Felony; Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon - Level 5 Felony; Obstruction of Justice - Level 6 Felony; and Resisting Law Enforcement - Class A Misdemeanor.
