Officer Lovely with the Plymouth Police Department assisted Deputy Hubbard with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department on a traffic stop Thursday, March 7th that resulted in the arrest of a South Bend woman.
At approximately 12:45 in the morning, Deputy Hubbard initiated a traffic stop on a red Dodge Journey for expired license plates on U.S. 30 at Oak Drive.
Officer Fisher with the Plymouth Police Department responded to the traffic stop to assist.
During the traffic stop, it was determined that the vehicle was not appropriately titled or registered to the driver, 42-year-old Sarah Matson-Ewing of Dunham Street in South Bend.
Ewing was also found to be operating a vehicle without ever having received a license. She was taken into custody and transported to Marshall County Jail where she was lodged for operator never licensed as a class C misdemeanor. The vehicle was towed. In less than an hour she was released on a cash bond.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
