Plymouth Police Department reports multiple arrests over the past week

Officers with the Plymouth Police Department made several arrests over the course of last week, with charges ranging from driving with a suspended license to operating while intoxicated.

The day's enforcement activity began at 12:45 p.m. when Patrolman Thornton observed a vehicle failing to maintain its driving lane on U.S. 31 at 9A Road and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, Guillermo Arroyo, 48, of South Bend, was found to have never obtained a driver's license. He was transported to the Marshall County Jail and charged with operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license.

Later that afternoon, at 3:30 p.m., Patrolman Thornton conducted another traffic stop near the front entrance of Centennial Park after identifying the vehicle's registered owner as a known suspended driver. The driver was identified as Sandra Vazquez, 28, of South Bend. Investigation revealed that Vazquez was operating the vehicle with a suspended license and no financial responsibility. She was transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked on a charge of operating without financial responsibility with a prior conviction.

That same evening at approximately 7 p.m., Officer Fisher ran the plate of a vehicle whose registered owner showed a suspended driving status. After confirming through BMV records that the driver matched the registered owner and that the suspension was for an infraction, Fisher conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle pulled over at Grace Baptist Church, and the driver was identified as Alexis Tanner, 33, of Plymouth. Tanner was placed under arrest for driving with no insurance with a prior conviction and booked into the Marshall County Jail.

At 8:34 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle driven by Alisa H. Crockett, 33, of Knox, for a traffic infraction at Pilgrim Lane and Oak Drive. Crockett's driver's license was found to have a suspended-prior status, and she was lodged in the Marshall County Jail.

At approximately 1:40 a.m., Plymouth Police officers were notified of a possibly intoxicated driver traveling southbound on Michigan Street from Plymouth Goshen Trail. Officer Witkowski located the vehicle at the Red D Mart on North Michigan Street and made contact with the driver. While speaking with the driver, the officer observed signs of impairment and launched an investigation. The driver, Kyle C. Letke, 24, of Jeffersonville, was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody and booked into the Marshall County Jail.

At 10:26 a.m., a vehicle driven by Merlin Fabricio Madrid Rapalo, 27, of Plymouth, was stopped for a traffic infraction at Veterans Parkway and Michigan Road. Rapalo was found to have never obtained a driver's license and was lodged in the Marshall County Jail.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
