Members of the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission received an encouraging update Tuesday evening regarding the progress of the Water Street Townhouses project and its adjacent parking facilities.

City Attorney Jeff Houin informed the commission that the final coat of asphalt was laid on Monday for the new parking lot located off Garro Street, just behind the townhouses. In addition to the lot, paving crews also applied the final coat of asphalt to the alley running between Washington and Garro Streets.

Although the paving phase is finished, the parking area is not quite ready for vehicles. Houin noted that developer Kevin Berger is waiting for the parking spaces to be striped before officially opening the lot to the public.

Once open, the parking area will serve as a city lot. Officials confirmed there will be no general parking restrictions for the public, with the exception of standard enforcement for designated handicapped parking spaces.

Work on the townhouses themselves is finished. Houin reported that some of the landscaping has been completed, and exterior architectural details, including canopies above the front doors and porch rails, have been successfully installed.

While the exterior work is wrapping up, Houin stated that he has not yet been informed of an official move-in date for the new residents.
