A North Judson man was arrested late Thursday night after an intoxicated confrontation at a downtown Plymouth hotel led to a domestic battery charge involving juveniles who were present.
Plymouth Police units were dispatched at 11:39 p.m. on May 21st to room 144 at the Days Inn after a caller reported that 34-year-old Brian M. Shepherd of North Judson was attempting to force his way into the room. Dispatch advised responding officers that they could hear Shepherd hitting and kicking the door over the phone.
When officers arrived, Shepherd was no longer at the room but was located on the sidewalk in front of Christo's Family Restaurant nearby. He was found to be intoxicated and was detained.
After officers made contact with a female and two juveniles inside the room, it was determined that a battery had taken place during the incident.
Shepherd was transported to the Marshall County Jail and lodged on charges of domestic battery in the presence of a minor and public intoxication.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
