The National Weather Service (NWS) says an extended period of hot and humid conditions has settled across the WAKO listening area and will remain in place through Saturday.
Daily high temperatures are forecast to be in the low to mid 90s with afternoon heat indices of 95 to 100 degrees and as high as 100 to 105 degrees during the peak afternoon hours. This type of heat and humidity may be hazardous. If working outside this week, make sure to drink plenty of fluids, especially water. Wear light colored, loose fitting clothing and a hat and take frequent breaks in a cool environment. Be sure to check on those vulnerable to the heat such as children and the elderly. Provide shade and fresh water for outdoor pets and livestock. And always check the inside of your vehicle when transporting children.
