On or after April 27, motorists can expect the following restrictions on Interstate 74 between mile markers 122 and 128 near St. Paul (Exit 123) through early July, weather permitting:
- Eastbound I-74 traffic will be reduced to one lane and shifted to the right lane of eastbound I-74
- Westbound I-74 traffic will be reduced to one lane and shifted to the left lane of eastbound I-74
- All westbound I-74 lanes will be closed (traffic shifted to eastbound I-74)
The construction speed limit will be 55 mph.
This project is meant to address pavement, bridge, and lighting needs on I-74 in Shelby and Decatur counties. Construction began on I-74 between State Road 9 and State Road 3 in the spring and is set to run through 2028. It includes full-depth and partial-depth pavement patching, along with resurfacing.
Seven bridge deck overlays are planned, along with a bridge replacement at County Road 100 W. in Decatur County.
New lighting is planned at the Shelby/Decatur County line (Exit 123) to increase safety and visibility.
This project is one of four locations selected for Indiana's worksite speed control pilot program, known as Safe Zones.
