Today, Congressman Rudy Yakym (R-IN-02) and Congresswoman Dina Titus (D-NV-01), Co-Chairs of the Congressional Unmanned Systems Caucus, applaud recent Executive Orders that are intended to increase drone safety and adoption.
“President Trump’s recent executive orders mark a vital step toward preserving our global competitiveness and innovation while strengthening public safety protocols for unmanned aircrafts,” Rep. Yakym said. “These orders encourage responsible ownership and use of drones and also address the risks associated with their potential misuse by bad actors.”
“As the Co-Chair of the Unmanned Systems Caucus, I am proud that my work to increase regulatory certainty for beyond visual line of sight operations is being implemented," Rep. Titus said. "This will enhance public safety in critical areas like fighting wildfires and conducting rescues. It will also implement protections for entertainment and live sporting events, which I have fought for with my DEFENSE Act.”
Background:
Both Congressman Yakym and Congresswoman Titus were co-sponsors of the DEFENSE Act earlier this year which will help state and local law enforcement counter drone threats at stadiums.
The 2024 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act included key elements of Representative Yakym’s bipartisan bill, The Increasing Competitiveness for American Drones Act (H.R. 3459), to unlock the potential of unmanned aircraft and maintain American leadership in next-generation aviation. It also included bipartisan legislation (H.R. 3989) Representative Titus co-led directing the FAA to issue a rulemaking on BVLOS operations.
