City Board of Public Works approves street closures for America 250 celebration April 18th

Members of the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety approved the request of Nelson Chipmen for street closures around the Marshall County Courthouse on Friday, April 18^th.

Chipman is a member of the Marshall County America 250 committee, a local committee working on organizing events to help celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which will be July 4^th, 2026.

Kicking off the 250 celebrations with Two Lights for Tomorrow.  This first event will honor the Ride of Paul Revere. 

Chipman said there is a nationwide program called America 250 aimed at celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States, indicated by the signing of the Declaration of Independence.  He said the State of Indiana is participating in this first event and has sent down to the counties a request to participate in their own ways.

Plans for the April 18^th event include placing two lights in the courthouse tower to replicate the two lights in the old North Church that signaled Paul Revere and his patriots to begin the ride to warn citizens that the British were coming.  Chipman said the ceremony will begin at 8:30 p.m. and will go until 10 p.m., and the Black Horse Troop from Culver Academies will participate with 16 riders.

Chipman said, “We think it will be a good kick-off for the celebration of 250 years.”

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously approved the street closure request.
