Officials with the Chevron Environmental Management Agency were in Lawrenceville Wednesday to conduct the annual former Texaco refinery property open house and tours.
The company has hosted the event over the last several years at Wishnick Park located next to the approximately 990-acre site in southeast Lawrenceville.
Jeff Moore is the public affairs advisor for Chevron and told GIANT-fm News that it gives the residents of Lawrenceville and others the chance to see the location, answer questions and talks with company officials about the remediation work being done there.
Moore says that the public input regarding the former site is valuable as the cleanup process continues. He also said that no firm decision has been made by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the five cleanup options being considered for the site. Those were the subject of a public meeting by the EPA at Lawrenceville High School in late January.
