Former state senator and 2022 Republican nominee for Illinois governor Darren Bailey will continue in the race for the 2026 nomination.
Bailey and his wife Cindy made the announcement via video this week. Bailey said in the video that after a lot of prayer and honest conversations between the two, it was decided to continue with the campaign with a message that the state of Illinois is worth fighting for.
The announcement comes two weeks after the deaths of Bailey's son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren in a helicopter crash in the state of Montana.
The Clay County farmer from Xenia is one of four candidates vying for the nomination to challenge incumbent Democrat J.B. Pritzker.
