Waldron native Julie Alano is part of the 2026 Hall of Fame Class entering the Indiana Track & Field Museum.
The Class of 2026 will be inducted Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana, home of the Indiana Track & Field Museum (photo).
The annual Hall of Fame Ceremony recognizes and preserves the most outstanding performances, record-breaking achievements, and exceptional accomplishments of the selected Indiana athletes and coaches from across the state.
The 2026 Hall of Fame Class includes:
- Shane Crawford (Winamac High School Class of 2007)
- Jimm Stack (Hobart High School Class of 1986)
- Charlie Koeppen (Carmel High School Class of 2004)
- John Goldsberry (South Bend Adams High School Class of 1945)
- Keith Talley (Indianapolis Northwest High School Class of 1982)
- William Richardson (Culver Military Academy Class of 1922)
- Charles Hornbostel (Evansville Central High School Class of 1928)
- Coach John Siau (Evansville North High School/Evansville Harrison High School Class of 1967)
- Coach Walter E. Thurston (Mishawaka High School)
- Sarah Pease (South Central High School Class of 2000)
- Coach Julie (Harker) Alano (Hamilton Southeastern High School coach, Waldron High School Class of 1994)
- White’s Institute High School Class of 1973 1,600 relay team (Coach Charles Gainther, John Maggott (1973 graduate), James Brasher (1974), Nike McDonald (1973) and Elix Brewer (1973).

Alano (photo) just completed 20 years as Hamilton Southeastern High School’s girls track and field coach with the following titles: 13 IHSAA Sectional, 10 Regional, two state fifth-place finishes, two state third-place finishes, two state runners-up, and one state championship.
Many of her relays have placed high in postseason national meets. In 2025, her Sprint Medley and Mixed 1,600 relay won the Nike Outdoor Nationals.
Alano also coached the cross country team for seven years with seven IHSAA sectional wins and six semistate appearances.
She has served the IATCCC since 2001 in several areas – president, secretary for 15 years and director of the annual coaching clinic eight years.
“It’s an honor to recognize these exceptional track and field athletes and coaches into the Hall of Fame,” said Indiana Track & Field Museum Director and former Indiana University Track & Field Coach Marshall Goss. “This evening will not only celebrate Indiana’s very best in track and field but also the winning and championship history of Indiana’s track and field athletes and coaches.”
