
Waldron High School’s 8-man football program secured its first victory over Tri-State Saturday, 22-16, and avenged its only loss in 2024 which came in the postseason championship game.
With the win, Waldron takes the lead in the standings at 5-0 and is in good position to be the top seed when the playoffs begin later this month.
Against Tri-State, quarterback Hunter Dodson threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another to lead the Mohawks. Dodson completed six passes for 157 yards and rushed for 77 more yards.
Troy Atwood had two receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown. Tad Crosby also had two receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Atwood and Crosby each had 10 tackles. Atwood had 2.5 quarterback sacks and an interception.
Tri-State’s Garrett Black and Kylen Zimmerman combined to complete 7 of 13 passes for 101 yards. Zimmerman also had 42 rushing yards on nine carries.
Rock Creek Academy has cancelled Saturday’s scheduled game with Waldron, according to Waldron coach Corey Barton. The Mohawks are searching for an opponent to fill the date.

The Yellow Jackets dropped to 2-3 with the shutout loss to the Orioles (3-2).
Morristown is scheduled to host Tri-State this Saturday.
