Unbeaten Triton Central suffers first football loss to Lebanon

Class 2A, No. 9 Triton Central got to halftime scoreless against visiting Lebanon Friday but lost its starting quarterback to a shoulder injury.

Matthew Wilkins was sacked with just under two minutes left in the second quarter and was carted off the field.

Lebanon broke through with a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter and pinned the first loss this season on Triton Central with a long kickoff return in the fourth quarter after the game was tied.

Lebanon improved to 5-1 this season with a 21-14 victory in the first meeting between the two programs.

The visitors put together a 76-yard scoring drive in the third quarter that was finished with a 9-yard pass from quarterback Chris Hill to Tannon Monden.

Hill would add a 5-yard scoring run later in the quarter for a 14-0 advantage.

Triton Central finally got on the scoreboard with a Braden Brown 64-yard touchdown run. And after a defensive stop, Brayden Whitlow (photo) took a Lebanon punt 63 yards for a game-tying touchdown.

Monden responded with a 95-yard kickoff return on the ensuing kick and Triton Central was denied on a fourth-and-goal play from the Lebanon 2-yard line inside the final 50 seconds when the snap was mishandled.

Monden finished with four catches for 51 yards.

Josh Parks led Lebanon in rushing with 96 yards on 18 carries.

Triton Central (5-1, 3-0 Hoosier Legends Conference) hosts Indian Creek (4-2, 1-1 HLC) this Friday at Mendenhall Field. With a win, the Tigers would clinch no worse than a share of the inaugural HLC championship.
