It was no secret who had the best speed Saturday in the Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana (QHRAI) Stallion Service Auction (SSA) Futurity Juvenile as TW No Beach Secrets rode the wave to the wire for the win.
The race was starters in the QHRAI SSA Futurity Trials who did not qualify for the $230,111 Restricted Grade 3 final, set later in the card.
Diego Villamil Bocanegra broke from the gate aboard TW No Beach Secrets in the center of the track and was immediately in contention for the lead. The freshman filly battled with Ole Slew Foot and Martin Munoz from the inside throughout the 350-yard dash before taking over late in the race, winning by one-half length in 17.827 seconds. Ole Slew Food finished a nose ahead of Jess Sinful and Francisco Quintero.
TW No Beach Secrets, who just missed the top 10 qualifiers for the QHRAI SSA Futurity Final, paid $9.40 for the win. The Escondido Beach gelding gave breeder Thomas Wylie back-to-back wins in the consolation rounds of the QHRAI SSA Derby and Futurity, joining Escondido Gold as winners on the day. Wylie retained ownership of TW No Beach Secrets, who is trained by Natasha Perez.
“I knew he (TW No Beach Secrets) had it in him,” noted Perez. “He just had a bad trial. Glad to see him get this win today.”
It was the second career win for TW No Beach Secrets in only his fifth career start. After finishing second in his trial of the QHRAI SSA Futurity and unfortunately finishing 11th on the list of 78 vying for a top 10 spot in the gate for the final, TW No Beach Secrets increased his career earnings to nearly $40,000.
“Years ago, Paul Martin, who I’ve known for a long time, called me and told me I needed to switch my horses to Natash (Perez),” said Wylie. “I have so much respect for her and Saul (Perez, Natasha’s husband). She’s an amazing horse woman and they are good people. What I really enjoy about this is that we work as a team.”
