Triton Central wins three county tourney titles Saturday at Morristown

Triton Central captured three Shelby County Tournament championships Saturday at Morristown.

Girls tennis

Triton Central did not lose a match while sweeping Waldron and Morristown.

The Tigers defeated Waldron, 5-0, in the semifinal round.

At No. 1 singles, Maryrose Felling topped Emerson Lindsey, 6-0, 7-5.

Anniston Evans won in straight sets at No. 2 singles over Riley Thurston, 6-3, 6-1.

Ellie Gast won a first-set tiebreak at No. 3 singles then dominated the second set for a 7-6 (6), 6-0 win over Ava Leising.

At No. 1 doubles, Neve Kahler and Kate Collier bested Riley Price and Jackie Corlett, 6-1, 7-5.

Caydence Stout and Estelle Gearlds defeated Malia Murphy and Madeline Walker, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Morristown defeated Southwestern in the second semifinal to face the Tigers in the championship match.

Triton Central lost just three games in sweeping all five matches.

Felling defeated Katie Theobald, 6-0, 6-0; Evans defeated Brianna Flores, 6-0, 6-0; and Gast defeated Addie Osborne, 6-2, 6-0.

Kahler and Collier bested Emma Wagoner and Zoey Coons, 6-0, 6-1. Gearlds and Stout defeated Maile Vitz and Emmy Bowyer.

Triton Central improved to 13-1.

Baseball

Triton Central 16, Southwestern 0

A trio of Triton Central pitchers limited Southwestern to two hits and struck out six to advance to the Shelby County Tournament championship game.

Janssen Capps earned the win with three scoreless innings and five strikeouts. Blaine Raider and Ty Bergman each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Chris Cecil took the loss for Southwestern (6-5).

Bryce Haney had three hits, including two doubles, scored four runs and drove in three runs in the win.

Morristown 7, Waldron 5

A 5-run fourth inning gave the Yellow Jackets the win and a spot in the county tourney championship game.

Jackson Kuhn drove in two runs for Waldron (5-10).

Triton Central 14, Morristown 2

A 9-run first inning gave the Tigers an early lead it never relinquished in the championship game of the Shelby County Tournament at Morristown.

Kaleb Murphy pitched the first two innings and allowed two unearned runs while striking out five. Brody Hartman, Hayden Beaver and Bryce Haney each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Haney again led the Triton Central offense with two hits, two runs and a four RBI. Bo West, who had a home run in the semifinal win, had two hits and two RBI.

Triton Central is 14-4 (10-0 Indiana Crossroads Conference) and at Indianapolis Lutheran (11-7, 8-2 ICC) Tuesday.

Morristown (4-11) hosts Anderson Prep (1-11) today.

Southwestern hosts Morristown Tuesday.

Softball

Triton Central 15, Morristown 0

A 7-run first inning allowed the Tigers to cruise to a Shelby County Tournament semifinal victory at Morristown.

Brylie Couch had two hits, including a home run, and drove in five runs to improve Triton Central to 12-2. Couch also pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out 11.

Triton Central 16, Waldron 0

Triton Central scored 13 runs in the first inning to help secure the Shelby County Tournament championship.

Lilli Fillippinie and Madi Peterson combined to throw a no-hitter and strike out 10 Mohawks (0-8).

Madison Collins had two doubles and a triple and drove in six runs for Triton Central (13-2).

Triton Central hosts Greenfield-Central (8-6) today.

Morristown hosts Waldron Thursday.
