Triton Central’s doubles teams went 6-0 Saturday at the Indiana Crossroads Conference Boys Tennis Tournament to propel the Tigers to the team title.
With flight wins in both doubles brackets and a No. 2 singles flight win from Janssen Capps, Triton Central amassed 31 points to edge runner-up Covenant Christian by one point (30).
Speedway was third with 24 points to finish ahead of Indianapolis Scecina (16.5), Indianapolis Ritter (16), Beech Grove (11.5) and Indianapolis Lutheran (10).
Played at Indianapolis North Central High School Saturday, Capps needed just two victories to capture the No. 2 singles bracket. He opened against Ritter’s Andrew Gehardt and prevailed, 6-1, 6-1. In the championship, Capps bested Covenant Christian’s Cooper Wood, 6-3, 6-2.
At No. 1 doubles, Triton Central’s Connor Evans and Max Crouse needed three sets to win the championship match over Covenant Christian’s Mark Crane and Isaac Crane. The Tigers’ duo lost a total of four games against Ritter and Speedway to reach the championship.
Caleb McGuire and Brayden Hoover needed a three-set win over Covenant Christian’s Nolan Guzman and John Bird in the semifinal round at No. 2 doubles to reach the championship.
Once there, they dominated Speedway’s Alastair Curts and Michael Broida, 6-0, 6-1 to give Triton Central three bracket champions.
Capps and both of Triton Central’s doubles teams earned All-ICC distinction with their bracket victories.
At No. 1 singles, Triton Central’s Tucker Hutchinson was defeated in the semifinals by Scecina’s Matthew Guarnieri, 6-1, 6-0.
Bradyn Robinson won his first match at No. 3 singles for Triton Central but also lost in the semifinal round to Covenant Christian’s Brandon Hilliard, 6-3, 6-1.
Hutchinson and Robinson bounced back to win third-place matches.
