
Triton Central defeated Shelbyville to capture its second straight sectional championship and fourth in the last five seasons.
The Tigers lost just four games Thursday while sweeping the doubles matches and added straight-set victories at No. 1 singles and No. 3 singles to defeat the Golden Bears, 4-1.
Shelbyville’s only win came at No. 2 singles where Sophia Asher defeated Anniston Evans, 7-5, 6-1.
At No. 1 singles, Maryrose Felling improved to 21-0 this season with a 7-5, 7-6 (5) win over Ava Muckerheide.
Ellie Gast pushed her No. 3 singles record to 21-1 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Corinne Aldridge.
Triton Central’s No. 1 doubles pairing of Neve Kahler and Kate Collier also remained unbeaten this season with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Megan Childres and Ava Van Wye.
Estelle Gearlds and Caydence Stout improved to 15-1 at No. 2 doubles with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kylie Stader and Abigail Huntsman.
Triton Central (20-1) will face Perry Meridian Tuesday in one semifinal match at the Center Grove Sectional. The Falcons defeated Roncalli, 4-1, to win their third sectional championship in the last four years.
The other semifinal match has yet to be determined.
In the Connersville Sectional championship match today, the host Spartans battle Rushville.
At the Center Grove Sectional, No. 17 Center Grove takes on No. 23 Franklin today to determine the sectional champion.
The IHSAA State Singles and Doubles tournaments begin next week. Southwestern’s Tanna Tatlock (photo, right) and Tori Burkhart (photo, left) advanced out of the Shelbyville Sectional and will compete next week at Center Grove.
