Shelbyville grad Edwards announces transfer to LSU

Former Shelbyville All-State softball player Kylee Edwards has announced her transfer to Louisiana State University.

After two successful seasons at Mississippi State, Edwards entered the transfer portal searching for a new opportunity.

“It ultimately came down to me wanting to explore other options,” said Edwards in an interview with the LSU Daily News. “I want to win a national championship. Going into the portal, I was looking for a program where the coaches and the girls are out there every single day to win a national championship, go to the World Series, and host a super regional. I just wanted to be surrounded by All-Americans where I can push them and they can push me.”

Edwards, a standout defensive shortstop, had visits lined up with several Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) schools but LSU was the first, and only, visit she completed.

“You look at LSU softball, and you just know every girl dreams of playing at LSU,” she said. “I know when I was little, I went to camps at LSU like itty bitty. Um, it was always a dream of mine to play for LSU and I didn’t really get a lot of interest out of high school and I came down on the visits and just like everything about LSU just made it special. I mean, All Americans for days, the girls that are there, they’re competitors, and I want to play beside them every single day.”

What LSU gets is a shortstop that hit .290 with nine doubles, nine home runs and 37 runs batted in. She started all 58 games for a Mississippi State squad that finished 39-19 and lost to Texas Tech twice in the Lubbock Regional.

As a freshman in 2024, Edwards hit .269 with eight doubles, five home runs and 23 RBI for a 34-20 Bulldogs team.
