Shelbyville golf qualifies for third consecutive regional

Shelbyville golf secured its third-straight regional berth Friday with a third-place finish at the Greensburg Sectional.

At the Greensburg Country Club, Batesville shot 301 to capture its first sectional title since 1996. Columbus North was one shot back at 302 and the Golden Bears took third with a season-best score of 309.

East Central (321) was fourth ahead of Columbus East (322), Greensburg (335), North Decatur (339), Jac-Cen-Del (363), Hauser (376), Milan (378), Southwestern (409) and South Ripley (Inc.).

Batesville, Columbus North and Shelbyville will compete in the Providence Regional at Champion Pointe Golf Course on Thursday.

The top three individuals not on an advancing team also will compete at the Providence Regional. They are Columbus East’s Mason Reeves (72), Greensburg’s Collen Schroeder (74) and East Central’s Austin Makrancy (76).

Columbus North’s Brady Schneider was the sectional champion with a round of 1-under-par 69.

Jake Garrison led Shelbyville with a 73. Brock Wischmeyer finished three shots back at 76. Logan Tobian also broke 80 with a round of 8-over-par 78.

Ethan Hughes shot 82 to complete the Golden Bears’ scorecard. Logan Reinhart also competed and shot 87.

Eli Smith led Southwestern with a 94. Josh Karr (103) and Landon Fix (104) finished within one stroke of each other. Cecil Newton followed with 108 and Levi McInerny posted 121.
