Shelbyville bats overwhelm Triton Central in 12-5 win

Production from the bottom half of the order set up Shelbyville’s most productive hitters and led to a 12-5 victory Friday over Triton Central.

The Golden Bears’ scored nine runs over the second and third innings with help from the bottom three hitters in the order – Sydney Brown, Hailey Maulden and Reagan Dillon – who combined for five hits in those two innings.

Addie Stieneker, Anna Shearer and Destiney Johnson, Shelbyville’s 2-3-4 hitters, then drove in five runs which chased Triton Central starting pitcher Lillian Fillippinie out of the circle.

Fillippinie allowed 10 hits and nine runs before Brylie Couch took over. Couch worked the final four innings and allowed four hits and three walks while striking out five.

Gracie Crafton (main photo) earned the win for Shelbyville (12-7). The sophomore surrendered seven hits and two runs while striking out three.

Junior Sydney Brown (photo) pitched the final 2.2 innings and allowed five hits and two walks. She allowed three runs, only one was earned.

Shearer led Shelbyville with three hits. Johnson had two hits and drove in four runs. Dillon had two hits and three RBI.

Madi Peterson and Makinah Noel each had three hits for Triton Central (8-2).

At the conclusion of the game, Shelbyville senior Kali Laycock (photo) was presented the Gary Oldham Jr. Scholarship. Laycock will attend Franklin College where she will continue her softball career.

Triton Central won the junior varsity game, 8-3. Shelbyville’s runs came on a first-inning three-run home run by Ella Breedlove.

Shelbyville hosts Whiteland (9-4) Monday. Triton Central hosts Knightstown (7-7) Monday.
