Prep Report: Waldron's strong second quarter leads to win over Jac-Cen-Del

The return of Grace Fischer to the Waldron starting lineup helped produce a 51-41 victory Tuesday over Jac-Cen-Del.

Fischer had 10 points in her return from injury and backed Jackie Corlett, who scored 15 points, and Brooklyn Milbourn, who finished with a game-high 21 points.

The Mohawks (4-4) led 12-11 after one quarter then outscored the Eagles 17-4 in the second quarter for a 29-15 halftime advantage.

Milbourn scored eight points in the third quarter to keep Jac-Cen-Del (2-7) at bay.

Tinley Enneking scored eight of her team-high 16 points in the fourth quarter but could not spark a comeback. Brookelyn Simon finished with 13 points.

Waldron hosts Morristown (3-6) Thursday in a varsity-only contest at 6 p.m. This game was previously scheduled for Friday but inclement weather has forced the Waldron athletic department to start the game 24 hours earlier.

Girls basketball

Knightstown 67, Southwestern 37

At Southwestern, Lilly Drew scored 20 of her game-high 32 points in the second quarter to help the Panthers (7-2) pull away for the victory.

Drew hit five 3s in the win, including three in the second quarter when the Knights turned a 6-all tie into a 26-15 lead it never surrendered.

Five different Panthers scored in the third quarter to outscore the Spartans 26-9 and extend the lead to 30 points going into the fourth quarter.

Bri Stevens led Southwestern (2-8) with eight points. Claire Utley finished with seven and Hayden Ramey had six.

The Spartans are at Triton Central (5-3) Saturday.

Tri 50, Morristown 34

At Morristown, Class A, No. 11 Tri raced out to a 20-2 lead after one quarter and rolled to its sixth win of the season.

Jillian Chew led the Titans (6-1) with 17 points. Nakaya Cridge finished with 10 points.

Jayla Keithley led Morristown (3-6) with a game-high 20 points. The junior also had four rebounds and two assists. Brooke Kuhn finished with six points and five rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets are at Waldron (4-4) Thursday for a varsity-only contest at 6 p.m. This game has been moved up 24 hours because of inclement weather forecasted for Friday.

Tri-West 68, Triton Central 61

At Tri-West, the host Bruins outscored Triton Central 24-15 in the fourth quarter to secure the Hoosier Legends Conference victory.

Amiyah Anthony scored 23 points and added nine rebounds and six assists to her stat line. Camryn Faires finished with 18 points. Blair Benner had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Tri-West improved to 4-4 (1-1 HLC).

Triton Central (5-3, 1-1 HLC) led 17-10 after one quarter but was outscored in each of the final three quarters.

Quinn King led the Tigers with 17 points. She also had three rebounds and three assists. Maryrose Felling had 15 points, four rebounds and three assists. Layla Compton added 11 points and three assists.

Triton Central hosts Indianapolis Shortridge (7-2) Thursday in Fairland.

Heritage Christian 55, Shelbyville 47

Shelbyville 73, Beech Grove 18

At Beech Grove, Shelbyville produced four first-place finishes to split dual meets with Beech Grove and Heritage Christian.

The Golden Bears opened the event with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. Anderson Mollenkopf, Shia Veach, Brody Jeanette and Everett Stegemiller defeated the field in 2:00.29.

Jeanette produced a win in the 200 freestyle in 1:56.75. Mollenkopf won the 50 freestyle in 25.46. That duo teamed with Stegemiller and Luca Kinker to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:46.37.

John Turner had a runner-up finish for Shelbyville in diving (189.15); Kinker was second in the 100 freestyle (1:05.6); Stegemiller was runner-up in the 50 freestyle (25.67); Mollenkopf placed second in the 500 freestyle (6:27.91); and Jeanette was runner-up in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.5).

Shelbyville 50, Heritage Christian 49

Shelbyville 77, Beech Grove 15

At Beech Grove, the Golden Bears produced eight first-place finishes to sweep dual meets with Heritage Christian and Beech Grove.

Riley Everette, who recently announced her commitment to swim at IU Indianapolis next season, won two events – the 200 individual medley (2:25.31) and the 100 backstroke (1:05.28).

Also securing first-place points were Anne Marie Fansler (2:20.89 in 200 freestyle), Chloe Claxton (184.2 points in diving), Meeghen Bushfield (1:11.98 in 100 butterfly), Paige Bohman (1:02.44 in 100 freestyle), and Naomi Garringer (6:38.34 in 500 freestyle).

Shelbyville closed the event with a win in the 400 freestyle relay. The quartet of Bohman, Everette, Garringer and Fansler touched the wall first in 4:18.22.
