Prep Report: Waldron tennis sweeps Edinburgh in conference opener

Waldron tennis opened its Mid-Hoosier Conference schedule Thursday with a 5-0 win at home over Edinburgh.

The Mohawks dominated the doubles matches, losing just two games.

At No. 1 doubles, Jackson Kuhn and Caige Sheaffer blanked Brinnyn Moss and Charlie Roberts, 6-0, 6-0.

Noah Mitchell and Connor Ping rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jayson Music and Bryce Sipe at No. 2 doubles.

Cash Young earned his first career win at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1 over Bailey Totten.

Lincoln Fischer defeated Raiden Stanley, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Ethan Moody’s varsity debut resulted in a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles over Braden Cox.

Waldron is at Shelbyville Monday.

Shelbyville 220, Whiteland 227

At The Legends Golf Club, freshman Hana Stenger earned the first medalist honor of her career, shooting 51 to lead the Golden Bears to victory.

Riley Everette followed with a 52 while Julie Garrison’s 58 and Sophia Asher’s 59 completed the Shelbyville scorecard.

Boys soccer

Triton Central 0, Morristown 0, tie

The Tigers and Yellow Jackets played to a scoreless draw at Morristown.

Triton Central (0-1-1) hosts Oldenburg Academy (0-1) Monday.

Morristown (1-0-1) takes on Rock Creek Academy (0-1) Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Jennings County Panther Cup.

Boys tennis

Triton Central 5, Heritage Christian 0

At Triton Central, the host Tigers won all five matches in straight sets to improve to 2-1 this season.

Janssen Capps, Brayden Hoover and Bradyn Robinson lost a total of three games fo sweep the singles matches.

At No. 1 doubles, Max Crouse and Caleb McGuire defeated Kellan Compton and Cooper Klopfenstein, 7-6 (1), 7-5.

Talan Canter and Drayton Kermode topped Henry Morgan and Griffin Huck at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-4.

Volleyball

Columbus North def. Shelbyville, 23-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-10

At Garrett Gymnasium, Karen Dutro and Elaina Penrod combined for 26 kills to lead the Bull Dogs (2-0) to their second win of the season.

Alivia Lee led Shelbyville (1-2) with 11 kills. Jordyn Noe added eight kills.

Sydney Haehl had a team-high 26 digs. And Addy Marshall collected 26 assists.

Columbus North won the junior varsity match, 25-7, 25-8.

Hagerstown def. Morristown, 25-23, 25-18, 25-20

At Hagerstown, Brooklyn Carlton and Avery Everhart combined for 18 kills but it was not enough to keep the Yellow Jackets from being swept by the Tigers (2-0).

Carlton had a team-high 10 kills and seven digs. Mykynzy Smith finished with a team-high eight digs while Addison Osborne collected nine assists.

Lilah Doerstler led Hagerstown with nine kills and four service aces.

Greensburg def. Triton Central, 25-23, 25-14, 19-25, 25-15

At Triton Central, six different Pirates had at least five kills, led by Averi Helms’ 15 to improve Greensburg to 3-0.

Mya Comer finished with 13 digs and 39 assists.

Triton Central dropped to 2-1 this season.
