Waldron freshman Maleah Williams (photo) set a new personal best indoor record in the shot put Saturday to finish third at the Hoosier State Relays at Fall Creek Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
Williams’ best throw of 42 feet, two inches left her third behind Western senior Ellyse Walden (45-3.75) and Heritage senior Alexa Walter (43-2).
Also competing at the Hoosier State Relays from Shelby County:
- Triton Central’s Zeke Robertson finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.53 seconds
- Triton Central’s 4x200 relay team of Robertson, David Gorth, Braden Brown and Landon Slone placed 18th in 1:36.83.
- Waldron’s Caige Sheaffer did not clear the opening height in the high jump.

East Central 14, Shelbyville 0
At Shelbyville Saturday, East Central scored seven runs in the second inning and six more in the fourth to secure the season-opening win.
Kelsey Koth and Chloe Feldmann each had three hits for East Central. Paige Hotze did not allow a run and struck out five over five innings.
Alexis Rogers, Julie Garrison and Sydney Brown each had a hit for the Golden Bears (0-1).
Gracie Crafton took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing 12 hits, six walks and 13 runs (9 earned). Brown did not allow an earned run over the final 1.2 innings and struck out two.
Shelbyville is at Seymour (1-1) Tuesday.

Shelbyville finished 0-4 Saturday suffering straight-set losses in all four matches.
Wheaton-Warrenville South, McCutcheon, New Castle and Fort Wayne South Side each topped the Golden Bears 2-0.
Shelbyville’s best match came against New Castle – a 25-18, 25-10 loss. Kolton Scheffee led the Golden Bears with three kills and a service ace. Asher Tong had a team-high seven digs. And Harlyn Feathers finished with four assists.
Shelbyville (0-6) hosts Columbus North (1-8) tonight.
