Prep Report: Triton Central's Hall wins HLC golf championship

Triton Central’s Kennedy Hall is the inaugural Hoosier Legends Conference Tournament champion.

Sarah Shank Golf Course in Indianapolis was the site for the first-ever HLC tournament Tuesday. Hall raced to the lead with a career-best 9-hole round of 38 on the front nine and carded 47 on the back nine for the low round of the tournament at 85 (+13).

Tri-West captured the first team championship with a score of 398. Indian Creek was runner-up (411) ahead of Triton Central (429), Monrovia (430), Speedway (447) and Beech Grove (477).

The top eight individual finishers were named All-Conference. Following Hall on the leaderboard were Tri-West’s Hallie Phillips (90), Monrovia’s Avery Wolfe (92), Tri-West’s Ava Donald (96), Indian Creek’s Ellie Smith (97) and Shelby Roach (99), Triton Central’s Lindsay Huxford (102) (photo, fourth from left) and Monrovia’s Lyla Wirey (103).

Also competing for Triton Central were Emersynn Ailes (116) and Jaylee Davis (126)

Girls golf

Shelbyville 205, Hauser Inc.

At Clifty Creek Golf Course, Hana Stenger secured her second medalist honor of the season with a 50.

Riley Everette and Julie Garrison each followed with 51s and Maddy Jones carded a 53.

Boys soccer

Southwestern 4, Morristown 0

At Southwestern, four different Spartans scored in the shutout win over the Yellow Jackets.

Jesse Wilkins and Landon Drake scored first-half goals. Ethan Sipes and Cecil Newton extended the lead in the second half.

Chandler Holt and Jay Utley combined to make four saves in goal.

Class A, No. 8 Southwestern improved to 4-1 and hosts Milan (1-4) Thursday.

Morristown dropped to 1-4-1 and hosts Central Christian Academy Saturday.

Girls soccer

Mt. Vernon 4, Shelbyville 0

At Shelbyville, Taylor Greulich scored three goals to lead the Marauders to the Hoosier Heritage Conference victory.

Jaicee Cole also scored against the Golden Bears, who were shutout for the first time this season.

Shelbyville (4-2) is at Indian Creek (3-3) Thursday.

Boys tennis

Shelbyville 5, Pendleton Heights 0

At Shelbyville, the No. 2 doubles team of Aiden Alton and Jack Van Wye rallied from a set down to win their match and complete the sweep of the Arabians.

Alton and Van Wye defeated Josiah Davis and Wade Paul, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

At No. 1 doubles, Aiden Smith and Wyatt Armstrong cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Dane Reddington and Bradac Souders.

Reece Prickett, Kashton Laycock and Bram Kolkmeier each won their singles matches in straight sets.

Shelbyville (5-3, 2-1 HHC) is at New Palestine (5-6) Thursday.

Triton Central 3, Franklin 2

At Triton Central, the host Tigers swept the singles matches to defeat the Grizzly Cubs.

At No. 1 singles, Janssen Capps topped Jaxson Doddridge, 6-3, 6-1. Brayden Hoover was a straight-set winner at No. 2 singles over Oliver Wiltz, 6-3, 7-5. And Bradyn Robinson needed three sets to dispatch of Corbin Booht at No. 3 singles, 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-2.

At No. 1 doubles, Ethan Barnes and Luke Sherry defeated Max Crouse and Caleb McGuire, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Jonah Henry and Carsten Bland bested Triton Central’s Drayton Kermode and Graham Gast at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-3.

Triton Central (5-2) hosts Greenfield-Central today.

New Palestine 4, Waldron 1

At Waldron, the Mohawks’ lone match win came at No. 1 doubles where Jackson Kuhn and Caige Sheaffer defeated Luke Bartesek and Gavin Berry, 6-1, 6-3.

At No. 2 doubles, New Palestine’s Jackson Clark and Davis Harrison topped Connor Ping and Noah Mitchell, 6-1, 6-2.

The Dragons won all three singles matches in straight sets.

The Mohawks (2-3) host Trinity Lutheran Thursday.

Volleyball

Triton Central def. Waldron, 25-18, 25-14, 25-15

At Triton Central, Lucy May led the victorious Tigers (7-4) with seven kills.

Audrey Darlage finished with four service aces and Alaina Darlage collected 11 digs.

The Mohawks fell to 1-7 this season.

Triton Central won the junior varsity match, 25-8, 25-17.

Adyson Wright notched 19 aces in the win. Anna Kemper had seven digs.

The Tigers host Trinity Lutheran (6-5) while the Mohawks travel to Knightstown (3-5) Thursday.

Indian Creek def. Shelbyville, 25-11, 25-14, 25-22

At Indian Creek, the host Braves swept the varsity match to improve to 6-2 this season.

The Golden Bears have lost four of their last five matches to fall to 2-5.

Shelbyville hosts Greenwood (4-5) Thursday at William L. Garrett Gymnasium.

Rising Sun def. Morristown, 25-13, 25-14, 28-26

At Rising Sun, the host Shiners improved to 6-2 this season with a sweep of the Yellow Jackets (3-5).

Morristown hosts Shelbyville Saturday morning.
