Prep Report: Triton Central softball nets walkoff wins over Shelbyville and Monrovia

Triton Central built a 9-0 lead then saw the Golden Bears score 10 runs in the fifth inning to take the lead, only to rally in the seventh and take the win, 16-15, on a bases-loaded walk Friday in Fairland.

Ashlyn Hittle had two home runs and two doubles for Triton Central (9-5) and drove in five runs. Madi Peterson and Makinah Noel also had home runs and each drove in five runs off Shelbyville pitches Gracie Crafton and Sydney Brown.

Peterson got the start, stepped aside in the fifth inning as Riley Sherer entered the circle, only to return in the inning to finally put a stop to the Golden Bears, who scored double digit runs in an inning for the third time this season.

Lexi Rogers had three hits, including a home run, and drove in five runs to lead Shelbyville (9-9). Julie Garrison and Anna Newhouse each had two hits.

Triton Central returned to the field Friday night to close out its two-game Hoosier Legends Conference series with Monrovia.

A Jalynn Keith single in the bottom of the seventh earned the Tigers a split with Monrovia, 10-9. Keith had three hits and drove in three in the win.

Noel had three hits and another home run.

Hailey Cooper went the distance to earn the win. She allowed nine hits and three walks and struck out three.

Shelbyville is at Whiteland (10-5) Monday.

Triton Central is at Knightstown (7-5) Monday.

Baseball

Morristown 17, Edinburgh 1

At Edinburgh, three Yellow Jacket pitchers limited the Lancers to one hit to complete the Mid-Hoosier Conference sweep.

Landon Rinzel pitched three innings, allowed one hit, one walk and struck out five to earn the win. Cole Helton and Russ Kleine each pitched an inning in relief.

Kleine and Braxton Lenning each had three hits for Morristown (5-6, 2-2 MHC). Jake Miesse had a home run and drove in two runs.

Edinburgh dropped to 2-12 (0-8 MHC).

Morristown hosts Bethesda Christian (8-6) Monday.

South Decatur 9, Waldron 2

At Waldron, a five-run third inning gave the Cougars a lead they would not relinquish to get the sweep of the Mohawks (6-8, 2-3 MHC).

Cayden Drake limited Waldron to three hits and two unearned runs while striking out 15 to improve South Decatur to 11-3 (6-0 MHC).

Drake, J.P. Scudder and Carter Tull each had two hits. Drake scored three runs.

Hunter Dodson took the loss, pitching five innings, allowing four hits and three walks. He allowed six runs but only one was earned.

Waldron hosts North Decatur (6-6, 5-1 MHC). Tuesday.

Triton Central 4, Monrovia 1

At Triton Central Friday, Brody Hartman allowed a run in the first inning then shut down the Bulldogs the rest of the way. He allowed three hits and six walks but struck out nine.

Brayden Hoover had two hits and scored two runs for Triton Central (5-7, 4-4 Hoosier Legends Conference). Hartman drove in two runs and Bo West had a solo home run.

Monrovia fell to 5-9 (2-6 HLC).

Triton Central 11, Indy Genesis 1

Indy Genesis 10, Triton Central 4

At Triton Central Saturday, Weston Smith and Ty Bergman each had two hits and Bergman drove in two runs to get Triton Central the win in game one of the doubleheader.

Brayden Hoover earned the win, throwing four innings, allowing one run and striking out seven. Rylan Anderson pitched a scoreless inning of relief to secure the win.

In game two, Cyan Nowling had four hits, scored twice and had two RBIs to lead Indy Genesis to the win. Gideon Barnes had two hits and three RBIs.

Cooper Alford took the loss for Triton Central (6-8). Bergman had three hits, including a double, in the loss.

Triton Central is at Indian Creek (6-7, 3-3 HLC) Tuesday.

Softball

Morristown 13, Edinburgh 10

At Edinburgh, the visiting Yellow Jackets scored six runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed to earn a split in the MHC series.

Sawyer Rogers had four hits, including a triple and a home run, scored three runs and had two RBIs. Mykynzy Smith and Avery Everhart each had three hits.

Rogers also was the winning pitcher, working four innings and allowing three hits and three walks. Abby Hawk secured the win, pitching the final three innings and allowing no earned runs.

Chloe Hancock had three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs for Edinburgh (12-5, 5-3 MHC).

Morristown (5-6) is at Greenwood Christian (3-2) Monday.

South Decatur 17, Waldron 1

At Waldron, Riley Benge allowed four hits and one walk while striking out eight in a complete game performance.

Dalilah Martin had two home runs and seven RBIs to lead the Cougars (9-3, 3-1 MHC).

Bre Barton had two hits for Waldron (5-5, 0-4 MHC).

Waldron is at Oldenburg Academy (0-10) Monday.

Girls tennis

Triton Central 4, Waldron 1

At Waldron Friday, the Mohawks’ No. 1 doubles pairing of Emerson Lindsey and Jackie Corlett stayed unbeaten this season with a 6-3, 5-7, 10-4 win over Kate Collier and Neve Kahler.

Triton Central (11-0) remained unbeaten by winning the other four matches.

At No. 1 singles, Maryrose Felling defeated Riley Thurston, 6-1, 6-1.

Anniston Evans blanked Ava Leising at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Zhibek Zhumaly remained unbeaten at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Leah Kuhn.

At No. 2 doubles, Estelle Gearlds and Cadence Roberts defeated Madeline Walker and Hannah Rouse, 6-0, 6-2.

Mt. Vernon 3, Triton Central 2

The Marauders pinned the first loss this season on Triton Central (11-1).

At No. 1 singles, Mt. Vernon’s Caroline Allen defeated Felling, 6-0, 6-1.

Elena Marmion topped Evans at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2.

Zhumaly improved to 12-0 this season with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Avery Spalding.

Mt. Vernon secured the match win with a three-set victory at No. 1 doubles where Ivy Zhu and Avery Koon defeated Collier and Kahler, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

At No. 2 doubles, Roberts and Gearlds improved to 8-0 this season after besting Lily Hua and Alaina Lockwood, 6-1, 6-1.

Track and field

Park Tudor Invitational

Morristown finished third in the girls team standings behind Park Tudor and Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter.

Brooklyn Carlton led the Yellow Jackets with first place finishes in the 100 hurdles (17.0 seconds) and 300 hurdles (49.23). She also was runner-up in the high jump (four feet, 10 inches).

Chloe Theobald won the long jump with a best distance of 14-6.

Carlton and Theobald teamed with Ava Smith and Anita Gesuale to win the 1,600 relay in 4:22.26.

Also scoring top five finishes were Gesuale (fifth in 400, 1:05.79; third in 200, 28.66) and Audrey VanDyke (fourth in the 1,200, 4:26.74).

Morristown’s boys track and field team placed eighth in the team standings.

Colston Allford won the high jump at 6-2.

Also scoring top five finishes were Ryan Crisman (fifth in 1,200, 3:32.75), Gavin Wilson (third in long jump, 17-6; fourth in 200, 25.25), Brayden Anderson (fourth in 400, 56.54), and Lakshdeep Singh (fifth in 800, 2:09.94).

Zionsville Invitational

Waldron had three athletes competing Friday in Zionsville.

Freshman Maleah Williams placed third in the discus at 134-11 and fifth in the shot put at 39-3.5.

Tad Crosby finished 14th in the 400 (52.9).

Caige Sheaffer placed 10th in the high jump (5-10).

New Castle Invitational

Triton Central senior Zeke Robertson won both hurdling events and helped the Tigers to a win in the 1,600 relay Friday.

Robertson won the 110 hurdles in 15.83 and the 300 hurdles in 40.94.

He teamed with Landon Slone, Tevian Faulkner and Liam Thompson to win the 1,600 relay in 3:40.32.

Thompson was runner-up in the 400 (55.3). Braden Brown finished second in the 100 (11.65).

Brown, Robertson, Slone and David Gorth finished second in the 400 relay (45.27).

Faulkner placed third in the 110 hurdles (17.67).

Layla Compton was Triton Central’s lone event winner in the girls’ meet. She finished first in the 100 in 13.73 and was second in the 200 (28.2).

Farah Coen was runner-up in the discus (83-7).

Coen and Compton ran with Ryn West and Kaylynn Tremblett to finish second in the 400 relay (53.58).

Audrey Morris, Ella Tupper, Rylee Pruitt and Ariel Walker finished second in the 3,200 relay in 11:59.7.
