Prep Report: Triton Central hurdler returning to IHSAA state championship meet

Zeke Robertson earned a second consecutive trip to the IHSAA State Track and Field Finals.

The Triton Central junior finished third in the 300-meter hurdles Thursday at the Plainfield Regional and lowered his own school record time to 39.26 seconds.

Robertson (photo) finished behind Ben Davis’ Robert Burns III (38.6) and Center Grove’s Ben Tapak (38.67).

Robertson placed 17th in the 300 hurdles in the 2024 state championship meet in Bloomington.

The 2025 state championship meet is June 6 at 3 p.m. at Indianapolis North Central High School.

Also competing at the Plainfield Regional but not advancing to the state finals were:

  • Waldron’s Will Larrison, fifth in the 800 (1:56.94)
  • Triton Central’s Braden Brown, 14th in high jump (5-10)
  • Triton Central’s Willy Baugh, seventh in shot put (50-10)
  • Shelbyville’s Blake Hughes, eighth in 400 (50.21)
  • Shelbyville’s 1,600 relay team of Hughes, Christian Powell, Kamden Turner and Logan Page, seventh in 3:26.98

Morristown freshman Colston Allford did not clear the opening height of 6-0 in the high jump at the Lawrence Central Regional.

North Decatur 8, Southwestern 0

Matthew Fields twirled a no-hitter and struck out 14 to push the Chargers into the sectional semifinal round.

North Decatur (15-9) scored seven times in the second inning to take control. Isaac Bunch took the loss for Southwestern (8-9), allowing two hits and six walks. Six of the seven runs scored off Bunch were unearned.

James Oliver pitched the final 4.1 innings and allowed two hits and one unearned run while striking out four.

Wyatt Reisman had two hits, scored two runs and drove in two. Nolan Burkhart also had two RBI.

North Decatur will face Tri (3-18-1) Saturday in the second semifinal game at 5 p.m. The Titans defeated South Decatur, 10-5, Thursday.

The first semifinal game Saturday pits Class A, No. 3 Knightstown (21-4) against the host Yellow Jackets (7-15).
