Prep Report: Smith leads Golden Bears to 1-0 win at New Palestine

A first-inning run was all Shelbyville needed to get a 1-0 Hoosier Heritage Conference win Tuesday at New Palestine.

Aiden Smith walked, stole second and third base and scored on an errant throw to give the Golden Bears a quick 1-0 lead.

Smith, a University of Kentucky recruit, then took the mound and held the Dragons scoreless into the fourth inning before Reece Prickett took over and earned the save.

Smith had the only two hits for Shelbyville (2-0) off New Palestine starter Holden Hughes, who pitched a complete game and struck out eight.

Game two of the HHC series will be played May 1 at Victory Field in downtown Indianapolis.

Shelbyville hosts Triton Central Friday at Barnett Field. The game will serve as a fundraiser for Unified Sports/Special Olympics. Mel’s Catering will be providing food options on site.
