Prep Report: Shelbyville's Veach finishes 11th at Franklin Invitational

Shia Veach and Logan Reinhart clocked personal-best times Saturday to lead Shelbyville to a 14th-place finish at the Franklin Invitational.

Veach (photo) finished 11th overall in a time of 16 minutes, 21 seconds. Reinhart’s best time of 17:30 earned him a 59th-place finish.

Also running personal bests were Anderson Mollenkopf (19:44), Kendryk Pike (19:52) and Everett Stegemiller (20:48).

The top five scoring average for the Golden Bears was over one minute faster from the same event in 2024.

 

 

In the girls event, Shelbyville finished 10th overall.

America Leon-Torres placed 27th overall in 20:50. Also for Shelbyville, Macey Robbins finished in 21:32, Aerin Garcia-Santiago crossed the finish line in 22:29 and Paige O’Connor clocked 23:03.

The top five average time for the Golden Bears was over three minutes faster than the 2024 event.

Shelbyville returns to action Saturday at Ceraland Park in Columbus for the Rick Weinheimer Invitational.

Boys tennis

Delta 5, Shelbyville 0

Shelbyville’s No. 1 doubles pairing of Aiden Smith and Wyatt Armstrong suffered their first loss of the season. Delta’s Tate Dishman and Brandon Grubbs rallied from down a set to defeat the Golden Bears, 2-6, 7-6, 6-1.

Smith and Armstrong are 6-1 this season.

Aiden Alton and Jack Van Wye dropped to 5-2 at No. 2 doubles with a 6-0, 6-3 loss to Aaron Elliott and Brady Williams.

Delta lost just seven games in sweeping the three singles matches.

At No. 1 singles, Jackson Darby defeated Reece Prickett, 6-2, 6-3.

Charlie Vannatter topped Kashton Laycock at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0.

Luke Atkinson blanked Bram Kolkmeier at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

The Golden Bears are 4-3 this season.

Volleyball

Morristown def. Southwestern, 25-12, 25-13, 25-17

At Morristown Friday, Brooklyn Carlton led the victorious Yellow Jackets with 12 kills and five digs.

Anna Osborne finished with a team-high 12 digs and Katie Theobald and Addison Osborne combined for 23 assists.
