Prep Report: Shelbyville's Everette advances to golf regional

Shelbyville senior Rylie Everette (photo) earned her second golf regional appearance Saturday at the Greensburg Country Club.

The top three teams and the top three individuals not on an advancing team qualified for the Franklin Regional.

Batesville easily captured the sectional championship at 320. East Central (385) and Greensburg (388) also advanced to the regional. Shelbyville finished fourth at 400.

East Central’s Rowan Pies was the sectional champion with a 68.

Advancing as individuals were North Decatur’s Mary Stier (94), Everette (94), and Franklin County’s Emma Tolhurst (96).

Also competing for Shelbyville were Julie Garrison (97), Sophia Asher (100) and Hana Stenger (109).

Competing for Southwestern at the sectional were Kaylee Pike (128) and Isabella Andrews (135).

Triton Central’s golf team competes today in the New Palestine Sectional at the Links Golf Course in Greenfield.

Cross country

Golden Bear Invitational

Shelbyville finished 17th in the Gold Division at the Blue River Memorial Park Cross Country Course Saturday led by Shia Veach’s fifth-place finish in 16 minutes, 21 seconds.

Also scoring for the Golden Bears were Logan Reinhart (24th in 17:24), Anderson Mollenkopf (82nd in 19:17), Kendryk Pike (89th in 19:31) and Eden Ortega (95th in 19:44).

Representing Morristown were Ryan Crisman (55th in 18:30), Lakshdeep Singh (65th in 18:46) and Evan Trittipo (146th in 25:47.

Jacob Kuhn placed 74th for Waldron in 18:59.

Southwestern fielded four runners – Chris Claiborne (114th in 20:38), Jackson Bentz (133rd in 22:39), Samuel Wilson (142nd in 24:30) and Maxmilian Wilson (144th in 24:57).

Shelbyville’s girls cross country program finished 12th Saturday. America Leon-Torres was the first Golden Bear across the finish line in 20:49 to place 17th overall.

Also scoring for Shelbyville were Macey Robbins (29th in 21:33), Aerin Garcia-Santiago (39th in 22:00), Kathryn Seal (59th in 22:59) and Avery Keller (72nd in 23:53).

Morristown was represented by Audrey VanDyke (41st in 22:07) and Gracie Theobald (102nd in 26:42).

For Triton Central, Audrey Morris finished 93rd in 25:49 and Reese Keller placed 109th in 28:33.

Waldron’s lone runner was Kassidy Meulen (100th in 26:07).

Southwestern was represented by Kyndra King (108th in 28:27) and Adalyn Brewer (110th in 28:41).

Boys soccer

Southwestern 3, Hauser 0

At Southwestern Friday, the Class A, No. 13 Spartans scored all three goals in the second overtime session to defeat the Jets.

Landon Drake scored with six minutes, 46 seconds left in the second overtime. Josh Karr then scored twice in 61 seconds to complete the scoring.

Chandler Holt was credited with six saves in goal.

Southwestern improved to 9-2-1 (3-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference). The win clinched no worse than a share of the conference title – the program’s seventh consecutive championship.

Hauser dropped to 8-3 (1-1 MHC).

The Spartans are at Class A, No. 10 Shawe Memorial (7-1-2) in Madison Wednesday.

Boys tennis

Shelbyville 4, Batesville 1

At Shelbyville Saturday, the No. 1 doubles pairing of Aiden Smith and Wyatt Armstrong were pushed to three sets by Batesville’s Lincoln Garrett and Wes Peters before prevailing, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Smith and Armstrong are 18-1 this season.

Shelbyville’s No. 2 doubles team of Aiden Alton and Jack Van Wye improved to 13-6 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Owen Westerfeld and Landon Raver.

Reece Prickett collected his 13th win of the season at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Caleb Mohr.

Freshman Bram Kolkmeier also earned his 13th win of the season at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-4 over Carson Meyer.

Batesville’s lone win came at No. 2 singles where Jevan Smith bested Kashton Laycock, 6-4, 6-4.

The Golden Bears are 14-5 this season and are at Rushville today.

Triton Central 5, Tri-West 0

At Tri-West, the Tigers lost a total of 13 games while sweeping the Bruins and capturing the inaugural Hoosier Legends Conference championship.

At No. 1 singles, Janssen Capps defeated Eric Dean, 6-1, 6-0.

Brayden Hoover delivered a 6-0, 6-2 win over Wyatt McMillan at No. 2 singles. And Bradyn Robinson matched that score at No. 3 singles against Kaden Simmons.

At No. 1 doubles, Max Crouse and Caleb McGuire cruised by Landry Slagle and Michael Gibson, 6-2, 6-1.

Drayton Kermode and Graham Gast topped Connor Smith and Colton Losh, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Triton Central improved to 12-6.

Volleyball

Lawrenceburg Invitational

Shelbyville won its first two matches Saturday in Lawrenceburg then lost its final two.

The Golden Bears defeated Charlestown, 26-24, 25-13. Lyla Wilson finished with a team-high seven kills. Alivia Lee finished with five kills, four service aces and six digs.

Shelbyville followed that win with a three-set win over the host Tigers, 25-20, 17-25, 15-11.

Wilson had 10 kills and three aces. Addy Marshall had three aces, 14 digs and 22 assists.

Shelbyville’s first loss came to Conner (Ky.), 25-17, 25-12.

Sydney Haehl, Addison Wooten and Marshall each had 10 digs in the loss.

The Golden Bears closed out the event with a 25-21, 22-25, 15-13 loss to South Ripley in the third-place match.

Lee led Shelbyville (8-11) with 11 kills and five aces. Wilson and freshman Annabelle Bringle each had seven kills.

The Golden Bears are at Triton Central (11-5) tonight.

Tri-Central Invitational

Morristown improved to 6-10 this season after going 2-1 at the Tri-Central Invitational.

The Yellow Jackets defeated Argos, 25-21, 25-19. Brooklyn Carlton produced a team-high eight kills. Avery Everhart and Abby Hawk each had six kills.

Culver Community defeated Morristown, 26-24, 25-20. Carlton and Everhart each had six kills. Katie Theobald finished with 10 assists.

Morristown then defeated Tri-Central, 25-7, 25-10. Carlton finished with five kills. Hawk had 12 aces.

The Yellow Jackets host South Decatur (7-6) tonight.
