Prep Report: Shelbyville volleyball sweeps Speedway at Garrett Gymnasium

Shelbyville volleyball hosted one of its future conference opponents Thursday at William L. Garrett Gymnasium and ended a three-match losing streak.

The Golden Bears swept Speedway, 25-13, 25-8, 25-9 to improve to 2-4 this season. Shelbyville and Speedway will both be members of the Hoosier Legends Conference beginning in 2026.

Following a five-set loss at Connersville the night before, Shelbyville produced a strong first set victory Thursday and cruised past the Sparkplugs (0-6).

Alivia Lee finished with a team-high 16 kills for Shelbyville. The senior also had one service ace and 12 digs.

Setter Addy Marshall led Shelbyville with six service aces and collected 15 digs and 22 assists.

Sydney Haehl finished with 10 digs and four assists.

Shelbyville travels to Indian Creek (3-1) Tuesday. The Braves also are a member of the Hoosier Legends Conference that formed this season.

Cross country

South Decatur Invitational

Southwestern did not field a full team for the event but had several runners compete.

Milan’s Gabriel Riehle won the boys race in 16 minutes, 26 seconds.

Representing Southwestern were Chris Claiborne (10th in 20:12), Jackson Bentz (17th in 22:09), Max Wilson (24th in 24:52) and Samuel Wilson (26th in 25:05).

Southwestern had two runners in the girls race won by Milan’s Hannah Cooney (20:25). Adalyn Brewer finished 12th in 26:14 while Kyndra King placed 21st in 31:40.

Boys soccer

Shelbyville 3, Indian Creek 1

At Shelbyville, Joao Rivera converted a penalty kick in the game’s final three minutes to finish off the hat trick and lead the Golden Bears to their first win of the season.

Shelbyville improved to 1-2 in its first home game of the season.

Indian Creek’s record evened out at 2-2.

Christel House 9, Morristown 0

At Christel House, Jeyson Corea scored four goals and added two assists to lead the Eagles to the shutout victory over the Yellow Jackets (1-2-1).

FredyCruz Vera scored two goals and Habib Bojang was credited with a goal and six assists.

Christel House improved to 4-1.

Boys tennis

Waldron 5, Morristown 0

At Morristown, the Mohawks improved to 2-2 with straight set wins in all five matches.

At No. 1 singles, Cash Young defeated Dalton McMichael, 6-3, 6-3.

Lincoln Fischer secured a 6-2, 6-0 win over Eli Graves at No. 2 singles.

Owen Hartman earned his first varsity singles win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Gage Frey.

At No. 1 doubles, Jackson Kuhn and Caige Sheaffer bested Michael Ballinger and Mitchell Ronan, 6-2, 6-1.

And Connor Ping and Noah Mitchell topped Ruston Kleine and Braxton Lenning at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-2.

Volleyball

Jac-Cen-Del def. Waldron, 25-18, 25-16, 25-17

At Jac-Cen-Del, the host Eagles improved to 7-2 this season.

The Mohawks have lost four straight to fall to 1-4.
