Prep Report: Shelbyville tennis opens season with win at Triton Central

Shelbyville and Triton Central tennis wasted no time getting acquainted this season with a season-opening match Saturday morning in Fairland.

The host Tigers won two of the three singles matches but the Golden Bears swept the doubles matches to earn a season-opening win, 3-2.

At No. 1 doubles, Aiden Smith and Wyatt Armstrong secured a 6-3, 6-3 win over Max Crouse and Caleb McGuire.

Aiden Alton and Jack Van Wye defeated Talan Canter and Graham Gast at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-1.

Shelbyville also got a win at No. 1 singles where Reece Prickett defeated Janssen Capps, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.

The Tigers got straight set wins at No. 2 singles and No. 3 singles.

At No. 2 singles, Brayden Hoover topped Kashton Laycock, 7-5, 6-2.

Bradyn Robinson bested Bram Kolkmeier at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 7-5.

Shelbyville and Triton Central split six junior varsity matches. Winners for Shelbyville were Grant Tackett, Owen Shively and the doubles pairing of Shively and Henry Rife.

Triton Central’s JV wins came from Colton Ayres and the doubles teams of Jason Gregory and Hyatt Watson, and Robbie Brown and Luke Dunn.

The Golden Bears return to action Tuesday at Hauser.

Triton Central hosts its first Hoosier Legends Conference match against Indian Creek on Tuesday.

Girls soccer

Whiteland 7, Triton Central 1

At Triton Central, Rhianna Hardy and Madison Fleury each scored three goals to lead the Warriors to a season-opening victory over the Tigers.

Elnora Stevenson also had a goal for Whiteland and Kinley Waalkens had two assists.

Brynne Aukerman had the lone Triton Central goal in the second half. Rylee Pruitt was credited with an assist.

The Tigers host Warren Central Tuesday.

Volleyball

Batesville def. Shelbyville, 25-15, 25-19, 25-14

At Batesville, Alivia Lee led the Golden Bears in the season-opening loss with six kills, three service aces and 11 digs.

Sydney Haehl had a team-high 19 digs. Setter Addy Marshall finished with 10 assists and 12 digs.

Shelbyville is at Southwestern (0-4) Tuesday.

The Spartans competed at the Morristown Invitational Saturday and lost to Hauser (25-23, 23-25, 15-13), Jac-Cen-Del, Northeastern and Edinburgh.

Waldron def. Medora, 15-25, 25-16, 25-11, 25-17

At Medora, the visiting Mohawks dropped the first set of the season then rallied to take the next three and earn a season-opening victory at Medora.

The Mohawks’ home opener is tonight against Indian Creek (1-0).
