Prep Report: Shelbyville tennis grounds Jets

Shelbyville tennis swept all five matches to defeat Hauser Saturday morning in Hope.

At No. 1 singles, Reece Prickett defeated James Oliver, 6-1, 6-0. Kashton Laycock bested Joel Bechtel at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3. And Bram Kolkmeier lost just two games at No. 3 singles in a win over Graydon Kilps.

Shelbyville’s No. 1 doubles team of Aiden Smith and Wyatt Armstrong topped Kameron Blair and R.J. Foster, 6-0, 6-3.

Aiden Alton and Jack Van Wye were victorious at No. 2 doubles over Brady Miller and Curtis Kilps, 6-3, 6-3.

The win improved the Golden Bears to 6-4.

Shelbyville is at Greensburg Tuesday.

Cross Country

Rick Weinheimer Invitational

At Ceraland Park in Columbus, Shelbyville’s Shia Veach continues to push for a sub 16-minute 5K time, setting a new personal record of 16 minutes, eight seconds Saturday to help the Golden Bears finish 18th in the big school division of the event.

Also scoring for Shelbyville were Logan Reinhart (17:44), Anderson Mollenkopf (19:07), Kendryk Pike (20:01), and Eden Ortega (20:14).

Shelbyville’s girls squad placed 17th overall. Scoring for the Golden Bears were America Leon-Torres (20:21), Macey Robbins (20:54), Aerin Garcia-Santiago (21:56), Kat Seal (23:05) and Avery Keller (23:32).

Runners representing Morristown and Southwestern competed in the small school division of the event. Neither school had enough athletes to complete a team score.

Running for Morristown were Ryan Crisman (18:37), Lakshdeep Singh (18:44), Evan Trittipo (25:53), Audrey VanDyke (21:33), Brooke Kuhn (23:28), Sawyer Rogers (23:56) and Gracie Theobald (25:16).

Competing for Southwestern were Chris Claiborne (20:01), Jackson Bentz (21:43), Samuel Wilson (23:48), Maxmilian Wilson (23:57), Adalyn Brewer (27:39) and Kyndra King (28:40).

Boys soccer

Delta 5, Shelbyville 0

At Shelbyville, the Golden Bears suffered their second shutout loss and first Hoosier Heritage Conference loss of the season.

Jed Vanator had three goals to lead the Eagles (6-1, 1-1 HHC). Carson Hall and Keller Bartlett also scored for Delta.

Shelbyville (2-5) is at Batesville (2-4-1) Tuesday.

Decatur Central 10, Triton Central 0

At Decatur Central, the Hawks improved to 2-3-1 with a shutout victory over the Tigers (0-6-1).

Uzi Garcia had three goals and an assist to lead Decatur Central.

Triton Central hosts Rushville (1-6) Monday.

Southwestern 4, KIPP Indy Legacy 0

At KIPP Legacy Friday, Cecil Newton scored a pair of first-half goals and goalkeepers Chandler Holt and Jay Utley combined for the shutout against the Lions (0-2).

Mo Eckert and Josh Karr each scored second-half goals for the Class A, No. 12 Spartans (6-1).

Southwestern is at Greensburg (4-2-1) Monday.

Girls soccer

New Palestine 7, Shelbyville 1

At New Palestine, Hannah Sund (4) and Gabrielle Brown (3) combined to score seven goals against the Golden Bears (5-3, 1-2 HHC). Sund now has a team-high 23 goals this season.

The Dragons improved to 5-3 (3-1 HHC).

Shelbyville hosts Pendleton Heights (3-4, 2-0 HHC) Tuesday.

 

 

Volleyball

Shelbyville def. Morristown, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-18

At Morristown, Alivia Lee and Jordyn Noe combined for 24 kills to get the Golden Bears (4-5) their third win in their last four matches.

Five different Golden Bears had double digit digs, led by Sydney Haehl’s 22. Hayden Ricketts followed with 21.

Setter Addy Marshall notched 39 assists.

Brooklyn Carlton led Morristown (3-6) with nine kills and 10 digs.

Katie Theobald (photo) finished with 26 assists and collected career assist No. 1,000 in the match.

Morristown is at Triton Central (7-5) Monday. Shelbyville hosts Columbus East (7-9) Monday at Garrett Gymnasium.

Heritage Christian def. Triton Central, 14-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, 15-8

At Heritage Christian, the trio of Ella Mensch, Naomi Thear and Kenley Mitchell combined for 42 kills to lead the Eagles (5-3) to the come-from-behind win.

Thear also had five service aces and 11 digs. Setter Bethany Ring surpassed 1,000 career assists with 40 against Triton Central.

Lucy May led Triton Central (7-5) with 11 kills. Alaina Darlage finished with 20 digs and Audrey Darlage had 18 assists.

The Tigers host Morristown (3-6) Monday.
