Prep Report: Shelbyville soccer secures second win over Batesville this season

An early second half goal by Logan Addis helped Shelbyville boys soccer earn its second victory this season over Batesville, 2-1.

Addis’ goal broke a 1-1 tie Tuesday and a strong defensive effort in front of goalkeeper Corbin Martin kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard in the second half.

Brant Davis gave Shelbyville (3-5) a quick lead with a goal 20 seconds into the contest at Batesville (2-6-1).

The Bulldogs scored off a free kick later in the opening half.

The Golden Bears defeated Batesville, 3-1, on Aug. 30 in the consolation game of the Shelbyville Invitational.

In the junior varsity match, Alex Ordonez scored twice, and James Mendoza had a goal for Shelbyville in what finished as a 3-3 tie.

Shelbyville is at New Palestine (4-3) Thursday.

Girls soccer

Shelbyville 1, Pendleton Heights 0

At Shelbyville, Cassie Pike’s goal in the second half was enough for the Golden Bears to earn the Hoosier Heritage Conference victory.

The goal was Pike’s fourth of the season and improved Shelbyville to 6-3 (2-2 HHC). It was the third shutout win of the season for the Golden Bears.

Pendleton Heights dropped to 3-5 (2-1 HHC).

Shelbyville hosts Triton Central (4-1-1) Thursday.

Boys tennis

Triton Central 5, Hauser 0

At Triton Central, the host Tigers won all five matches in straight sets.

At No. 1 singles, Janssen Capps defeated James Oliver, 6-0, 6-1. Brayden Hoover topped Joel Bechtel at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-3. And Bradyn Robinson bested Graydon Kilps at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-0.

At No. 1 doubles, Max Crouse and Caleb McGuire rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 win over Kameron Blair and R.J. Foster.

Drayton Kermode and Graham Gast defeated Brady Miller and Curtis Kilps at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-0.

Triton Central improved to 7-4.

Waldron 4, Brown County 1

At Brown County, the visiting Mohawks collected wins in both doubles matches and at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to improve to 5-3.

At No. 1 singles, Cash Young defeated Jax Burt, 6-1, 6-0. And Lincoln Fischer cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles over Bryan Teague.

At No. 1 doubles, Owen Hartman and Caige Sheaffer defeated Jack Keener and Nicklaus Arndt, 6-0, 6-1.

Connor Ping and Noah Mitchell did not lose a game while sweeping Audric Dunn and Jax Anderson at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-0.

Brown County’s only win came at No. 3 singles where Nolan McFall bested Ethan Moody, 7-6 (3), 6-4.

Volleyball

New Castle def. Shelbyville, 25-18, 25-19, 25-12

At Shelbyville, the visiting Trojans improved to 8-1 this season after securing their first HHC victory.

Jordyn Noe finished with a team-high nine kills for Shelbyville (4-7, 0-2 HHC). Alivia Lee had eight kills and a team-high 19 digs.

Sydney Haehl collected 18 digs and Addy Marshall notched 20 assists.

The Golden Bears are at Hauser (4-9) Thursday.
