
Four different Golden Bears scored goals Saturday to earn Shelbyville its first Hoosier Heritage Conference win of the season.
Ava Van Wye scored twice and Hali Chaney, Brigid McKenney and Hannah Baker found the back of the net to lead Shelbyville to a 5-1 victory at New Castle.
The Golden Bears improved to 2-1.
Sienna Melton scored the only goal for New Castle (1-1-1).
Shelbyville returns to action Thursday at Lawrence Central (2-1).

Plainfield Relays
Shelbyville’s Logan Reinhart and Shia Veach combined for a 14th-place finish Saturday with a time of 31 minutes, 25 seconds.
The hokum karem style relay has each pair of runners complete a 3-mile run for a combined total of six miles.
Shelbyville finished 13th in the team standings.
In the girls event, Shelbyville placed ninth in the team standings.
The pairing of Avery Keller and America Leon-Torres produced Shelbyville’s best result of 41:21 to finish 27th overall.
Shelbyville next competes at the Franklin Invitational Saturday.
Jeremy Wright Small School Invitational
At Shelbyville’s Blue River Memorial Park course, Oak Hill won the boys team title while Southwestern (Hanover) captured the championship in the girls event.
Morristown’s Ryan Crisman (54th in 19:43) was the top finisher from a Shelby County school. Waldron’s Jacob Kuhn (20:00) finished 64th while Southwestern’s Chris Claiborne (22:18) finished 142nd and Triton Central’s Max Tupper (23:53) was 182nd.
Morristown’s Audrey VanDyke placed 13th overall in the girls race with a time of 23:17. Waldron’s Kassidy Meulen finished 75th in 26:57; Triton Central’s Audrey Morris placed 96th in 27:41; and Southwestern’s Adalyn Brewer was 132nd in 32:16.

Southwestern 8, Anderson Prep 2
At Anderson Prep Friday, the visiting Class A, No. 9 Spartans built a 3-0 lead by halftime and added five goals in the second half to improve to 2-0 this season.
Dusty Stevens, Josh Karr and Cecil Newton each scored in the first half to get Southwestern a comfortable advantage.
Landon Drake made it 4-0 early in the second half with his first of two goals.
Following Anderson Prep’s first goal, Newton scored again to make it 5-1. Ethan Sipes and Jessie Wilkins extended the lead to 7-1 before Drake beat the goalkeeper.
Chandler Holt and Jay Utley combined for five saves in goal.
The Spartans host Franklin (1-1) Monday.

Triton Central 0, Connersville 0
At Connersville, the Tigers and Spartans played to a scoreless draw.
Triton Central (1-1-1) hosts Beech Grove (3-0) Monday in a Hoosier Legends Conference contest.

Triton Central 4, Hagerstown 1
Triton Central dominated the doubles matches and got straight-set wins at No. 2 singles and No. 3 singles to defeat Hagerstown.
At No. 1 doubles, Max Crouse and Caleb McGuire blanked Lukas Goldstein and Carter Sullivan, 6-0, 6-0. Drayton Kermode and Graham Gast finished off Braylin Tinkle and Preston Allred, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 2 singles, Brayden Hoover defeated Preston Mull, 6-3, 6-2. And Bradyn Robinson topped Collin Werking at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Hagerstown’s lone win came at No. 1 singles where Alex Tinkle defeated Janssen Capps, 6-3, 6-2.
Connersville 3, Triton Central 2
Hoover again was successful at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Jay McMullen. Crouse and McGuire defeated Maddox Rees and Parker Thumb, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
All three Connersville match wins came with a score of 10-7 in the third set.
Triton Central (3-2) is at Speedway Monday.
Shelbyville 3, Eastern Hancock 2
Freshman Bram Kolkmeier’s 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles over Cash Poindexter helped the Golden Bears to defeat the Royals. The win was the first for Kolkmeier at the varsity level.
Shelbyville’s other wins came from Reece Prickett at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2 over Luke Zeilinga and the No. 1 doubles pairing of Aiden Smith and Wyatt Armstrong, 6-1, 6-0 over Luke Fletcher and Parker Robertson.
At No. 2 doubles, Eastern Hancock’s Jalen Heldorbold and Ross Wennen defeated Aiden Alton and Jack Van Wye, 7-6, 5-7, 10-5.
Josiah Swauger bested Kashton Laycock at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
Shelbyville (2-1) hosts Waldron (1-1) Monday.
Volleyball
Covenant Christian Invitational
Triton Central finished 1-2 Saturday with its lone win coming against conference foe Speedway in two sets.
The Tigers’ losses were to Herron (2-1) and Covenant Christian (2-0) before salvaging a win over the Sparkplugs.
Triton Central (3-3) hosts Beech Grove Tuesday.
