Prep Report: Shelbyville golf earns Senior Night win over New Palestine

Less than two weeks from the postseason sectional tournament, Shelbyville golf celebrated Senior Night Thursday with a win over New Palestine, 195-205.

At Blue Bear Golf Club, seniors Riley Everette (49), Maddy Jones (49) and Sophia Asher (53) were part of the lineup along with freshman Hana Stenger (47) and sophomore Julie Garrison (50).

Elise Weimer was the match medalist with a personal best round of 45. Mallory Mohr and Emilee Neff followed with 53s.

Boys soccer

Southwestern 11, Knightstown 2

At Southwestern, six different Spartans scored a season-high 11 goals to improve Southwestern to 7-2 this season.

Landon Drake scored four goals – three in the second half – to push his season total to 10. Josh Karr scored twice in the first half to push the Spartans lead to 6-1 at the break.

Also scoring for Southwestern were Cecil Newton, Jesse Wilkins, Ethan Sipes (2) and Aiden Mitchell.

Knightstown’s goals were scored by Kenden Prestage and Cannon Hunt. The Panthers are 0-5-1 this season.

Class A, No. 11 Southwestern (Shelby) hosts potential sectional opponent Southwestern (Hanover) (5-0-1) tonight.

Hauser 4, Triton Central 3

At Hauser, the host Jets (7-2) scored the lone second-half goal to break a 3-3 halftime tie and secure the victory.

Evan Mitchell, Sam Woods and Bryce Toth scored goals for Triton Central (1-8-1).

The Tigers host Milan (1-6) Saturday.

Boys tennis

Shelbyville 3, Mt. Vernon 2

At Mt. Vernon, Shelbyville’s No. 2 doubles pairing of Aiden Alton and Jack Van Wye pulled out a three-set win, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 over Luke Guerre and Preston Douglas to get the Golden Bears the victory.

At No. 1 doubles, Shelbyville’s Aiden Smith and Wyatt Armstrong improved to 11-1 with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Bryndan Wylie and Tate Cougill.

The Golden Bears also won at No. 3 singles where Bram Kolkmeier defeated Wyatt Erdos, 6-3, 6-2.

Reece Prickett and Kashton Laycock lost at No.1 singles and No. 2 singles, respectively, in straight sets.

Shelbyville improved to 8-4 (3-2 Hoosier Heritage Conference).

Volleyball

Shelbyville def. Hauser, 25-17, 25-16, 25-10

At Hauser, the Golden Bears got 11 kills from Alivia Lee and seven apiece from Jordyn Noe and Lyla Wilson to improve to 5-7 this season.

Wilson also had seven service aces. Sydney Haehl finished with 20 digs. Addy Marshall had 26 assists.

Hauser dropped to 5-10.

Shelbyville is at Beech Grove (2-14) Saturday.
