Shelbyville scored seven first-place finishes Tuesday at Waldron to defeat both Indian Creek and the host Mohawks in a girls’ track and field meet.
The Golden Bears totaled 71 points on the strength of two relay victories and five individual event wins.
Scoring first-place points were Sonora O’Connor (13.64 in 100 meters), Alyna Castanon (1:04.53 in 400), Macey Robbins (2:37.14 in 800), America Leon (5:54.40 in 1,600) and Jordyn Noe (5-0 in high jump).
Robbins and Leon teamed with Aerin Garcia-Santiago and Isabela Gomez to win the 3,200 relay in 11:25.19.
Castanon, Noe, Mary O’Connor and Diana Gasca combined to win the 1,600 relay in 4:26.73.
Indian Creek placed second with 58 and Waldron was third (23).

Waldron freshman Maleah Williams (photo) broke two school records in her high school debut. She finished first in the discus with a best throw of 134 feet, four inches. She also won the shot put with a throw of 39-11.
Indian Creek’s 67 points was enough to defeat Shelbyville (53) and Waldron (32) in the boys’ meet.
Shelbyville won three individual events and the 3,200 relay.
In the 3,200 relay, Eden Ortega, Kendryk Pike, Logan Addis and Shia Veach won the event in 9:12.26.
Veach also won the 3,200 in 10:11.26.
Ethan Griffin captured first-place points in both throwing events. He won the shot put with a throw of 42-7.5 and the discus with a distance of 139-1.
Waldron won three events.
Tad Crosby won the 400 in 53.32. He also was runner-up in the 100 (11.95) and 200 (24.61).
Caige Sheaffer crossed the finish line first in the 300 hurdles (44.73) and cleared six feet to win the high jump.

At Seymour, the host Owls scored in four consecutive innings and pitcher Taylor Stuckwisch scattered seven Golden Bear hits to secure the shutout victory.
TaLynn Rieckers had three hits for Seymour (3-1). Stuckwisch had two hits including a double.
Julie Garrison had two hits for Shelbyville (0-2).
Gracie Crafton gave up nine hits and one walk while striking out six in six innings of work. Three of the seven runs were unearned.

The Golden Bears host Speedway (1-0) Thursday on World Autism Awareness Day.
Mel’s Catering will be on site selling hot dogs, hamburgers and fish sandwiches with the proceeds going to Autism Speaks.
